Pharmacy
Providence Health Care pharmacists ensure the safety and effectiveness of drugs for patients and residents.
Service
Pharmacists at Providence are responsible for the safe and appropriate use of medications to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes that improve patients’ quality of life. To do this, they work closely with the health care team, contributing their knowledge of optimal drug therapy and the potential for adverse drug reactions, seeking the best balance of safety and effectiveness. Pharmacists also assist in the coordination of patient therapy as they transition from the hospital to the community.
Clinical pharmacy services are provided to all inpatients at St. Paul’s Hospital and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. Pharmacists in the clinical areas and the dispensary are a resource for staff. The dispensary may be contacted 24 hours a day at local 62173. Information on policies like medication administration are available to staff by visiting PHC Connect and selecting Programs and Services — Pharmacy Services — Medication Policies and Procedures.
Outpatient Service
Pharmacy at Providence also serves outpatients including hemodialysis patients (both at St. Paul’s Hospital and at our community dialysis units), kidney care clinics, the Atrial Fibrillation Clinic, Healthy Heart Program, Home IV Program, Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic and our HIV population services.
