Youth mental health

An overview of the youth mental health services at Providence Health Care.

Overview

Foundry is a province-wide network of integrated health and wellness services. It is for young people ages 12-24.

In 2007, a team of psychiatrists at St. Paul’s Hospital wanted to provide better access to care for young people. Together, they launched the Inner City Youth program. That program evolved into Foundry.

Providence Health Care supports a local clinic, Foundry Vancouver-Granville. It is located at 1260 Granville Street.

Foundry Vancouver-Granville offers free mental health support for youth and their families. Our team includes social workers, mental health clinicians, rehabilitation workers, occupational therapists, family physicians/nurse practitioners, peer support workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

Youth can access many services at the Foundry Vancouver-Granville clinic:

  • Mental health care
  • Substance use services
  • Physical and sexual health care
  • Youth and family peer supports
  • Social and employment services

Youth can also access services at many other Foundry centres across the province. They can find resources online, or connect through the free Foundry BC app.  Foundry can also help youth and families find mental health programs and services where they live.

Medical & professional referrals

We require a referral to Foundry Granville for intensive case management, shared care/psychiatric consult and substance use services.

Our Intake Coordinator reviews referrals to determine if the Foundry services provided are the best option. They track all referrals to ensure that we serve youth in the best way possible. If a referral to the program is not appropriate, the Intake Coordinator will provide families and referring physicians with alternative options.
