Pharmacy
An overview of pharmacy services at Providence Health Care.
Overview
Our pharmacy team serves patients, residents and patients of our many clinics. Our pharmacists make sure your prescription drugs are safe and effective. They work closely with our health care teams. They also assist with your medication needs when you leave the hospital.
The Pharmacy Department includes clinical pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and pharmacy technicians.
Our services include:
- Ensuring safe medication practices
- Evaluating and improve drug prescribing
- Carrying out clinical research
- Educating other health care providers
The St. Paul’s Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy provides services for HIV treatment and prevention, as well as kidney and heart transplant patients.
What to expect
Inpatients (Patients in-hospital)
Clinical pharmacists work with your care team to decide the best treatment for you. Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants prepare your medications. They make sure these are safe and effective. If you have any questions about your medications while in the hospital, ask to talk to the pharmacist.
Residents (People living in Providence care homes)
Pharmacists are part of the care teams at our long-term care homes. We work with residents and their families to decide on the best medications for the resident. If you have questions about medications, speak with the clinical pharmacist.
Clinic patients
Pharmacists also serve clinic patients including:
- Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic patients
- Atrial Fibrillation Clinic patients
- Healthy Heart Program patients
- Hemodialysis patients at St. Paul’s Hospital and at our community dialysis units
- Hemosiderosis / Hemoglobinopathy Program patients
- HIV patients
- Home IV Program patients
- Kidney care clinic patients
- Kidney and heart transplant patients
Patients need an appointment to visit these clinics. Hospital staff will schedule this for you.
You may have questions about your medications. If so, please speak with a pharmacist during your appointment.
