Why choose St. Paul's Maternity?
The St Paul’s Hospital Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre emphasizes patient- and family-centred care.

Overview
At the St. Paul’s Hospital Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre, you can deliver your baby in a small, personalized birthing unit. A team of highly qualified and caring staff will support you.
We focus on you and your family, taking the time to understand your birth preferences. We work with you to make your birthing experience positive and memorable.
Working as a team to care for you
You can choose a family physician, an obstetrician or a midwife to deliver your baby. We have a shared care model. This means that your care provider and our team of specialists work together to ensure a safe birthing experience for you and your family.
If you have complex care needs, our dedicated complex care coordinator will be your main point of contact. They will connect with your care provider and other specialists to ensure you and your baby get the care you need. Their goal is to normalize your experience of pregnancy as much as possible.

Your birthing experience
At the Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre, you and your baby are at the centre of everything we do. If you have specific preferences or wishes for your birthing experience, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. Some of our expectant parents arrive with specific ideas of how they would like their birth experience to unfold. Others prefer to approach the process more organically. Your care team, in particular, your dedicated primary nurse, will talk with you and ensure your wishes are reflected in your birthing experience.
If medical complications arise during your delivery, we will do our best to reflect your birth preferences. But we might have to make adjustments to keep you and your baby safe. We are in an acute care hospital so we have access to other services if you or your baby need them. We will always involve you in any decisions surrounding your care.
Single room maternity care
We offer single room maternity care for our pregnant parents. This means you will labour, deliver your baby, and recover in the same private room. You will have access to your own bathroom and shower. If you have a caesarean section, you will have a private room for your hospital stay. This is after your initial recovery after surgery.
Prenatal education
We offer in-person and virtual prenatal classes. We encourage you to take these classes. They can help you prepare for the birth of your child and for the first few weeks at home with a new baby.
For Indigenous parents
We have Indigenous Wellness Liaisons and an Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation program. The program offers traditional wellness and ceremony when requested by patients, families and caregivers.
Comprehensive maternity care services
To make your experience positive and memorable, we are with you every step of your pregnancy and birthing journey.
