Aspirin Exacerbated Disease (AERD) Clinic

Location

2nd Floor, Providence Building, St. Paul's Hospital

This clinic is located in the Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Clinic. If you need help locating us, please ask one of our hospital volunteers to direct you.

About this clinic

We serve patients with aspirin/non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD). AERD is a complex condition where patients live with complications from three factors. They are:

  • asthma;
  • severe nasal and sinus polyps (painless growths inside the nose that can get irritated); and
  • a respiratory reaction (a reaction that affects breathing)

When patients with AERD take aspirin or other NSAIDs, they have a reaction. It can cause serious symptoms. These include wheezing, coughing, congestion, sinus pain or trouble breathing.

The AERD is a multidisciplinary clinic served by ENT and immunology physicians. We provide patient-centred care for those diagnosed with AERD or suspected of having AERD, including:

  • surgical consultation
  • biologics prescriptions
  • aspirin desensitization
  • allergy skin testing
  • and close follow-up with endoscopy.
