John Nixon was appointed as a Member of the Providence Health Care Society in June 2023. John is a graduate of UBC. He operated his own public affairs & communications consulting business for 25 years. In 2011 he was asked by Archbishop Michael Miller, CSB, to establish the Archdiocesan Development Office, which he did over three years. He then was appointed President of Vancouver College in 2014. There, in addition to administrative duties, he led the team that rebuilt half of the school’s buildings, including the successful capital campaign to pay for the project. He retired in August 2020 when the project was completed.
Over the course of his career, John gained considerable experience in board governance. He served on the Board of Directors of Providence Health Care from 2012 to 2019, during which time he was Vice Chair of the Board for three years, Chair of the Governance & Human Resources Committee for two and Chair of the Mission & Ethics Committee for four, as well as service on special committees.
John also served on the Board of St. Mark’s & Corpus Christi Colleges for six years, the Board of Vancouver College for 17 years, and three boards in the private sector for various terms.
John Nixon is married, has five children and ten grandchildren, and lives in Richmond, BC.
