Vice-President, Quality & Safety, and Long Term Care

Dr. Janet Kow was appointed Vice-President, Quality & Safety at Providence in August 2022. The Long Term Care portfolio was added to her VP accountabilities effective April 1, 2025.

Dr. Kow has led numerous roles during her tenure at Providence. Since August 2020, she served as Interim Vice-President for Pandemic Response, while also providing leadership as Providence's Senior Medical Director of Acute Care and Quality & Safety, and as Physician Program Director of Elder Care. Dr. Kow is also Clinical Associate Professor and the past Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at University of British Columbia.

As Vice-President, Quality & Safety, Dr. Kow's accountabilities include patient safety and relations, advance care planning, infection prevention and control, quality improvement, accreditation, and providing leadership and support to Medical Staff. A critical area of executive responsibility is the Value-Based Health Care initiative and the strategic development of a patient-centric approach to the design and management of health care delivery that considers both cost and improved health outcomes. Her accountabilities include strategically guiding and overseeing the operations of all Providence Health Care Long Term Care homes.
