For over 23 years, Dr. Harpreet Chauhan has been an integral member of Providence’s medical staff, most recently as Head of the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Chauhan has been appointed to Providence’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as Vice President, Medical Affairs, effective June 1, 2024.
Dr. Chauhan completed her Medical Degree from UBC in 1995 and attained her FRCPC designation in 2000. She went on to complete a fellowship in Geriatric psychiatry and joined Providence in July 2001, working at both St. Vincent’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital, caring for seniors with mental illness. She took on leadership positions that included UBC psychiatry Resident Site Director at MSJ from 2003 to 2008, the Geriatric Division Head from 2010 to 2016, and was appointed Head of the Department of Psychiatry in 2016. Dr. Chauhan is known for being a strong collaborator, skilled at mentoring, educating and team building, and a champion for continuous quality improvement. She excels at clear and transparent communications, physician engagement and bringing people together – a key area of focus for the role.
As VP of Medical Affairs, Dr. Chauhan will ensure medical staff human resources across Providence match and meet the needs of patients, residents, and clients. She will be a key member of the SLT, providing strategic leadership, direction, and financial stewardship in support of Providence’s vision, mission and strategic priorities.
