Preparing for your visit

What to bring

Please bring your BC Services Card.
Questions and concerns that you would like addressed by the team.
If you do not speak English and require an interpreter (at no cost), please let us know in advance.
If you need a sign language interpreter (at no cost), please let us know in advance.
If you can’t make your appointment, please call or email us ahead of time to reschedule.
All of Providence Health Care’s hospitals and residences are scent-free environments. Please do not wear scented products.
Information and answers to some of the questions below.

Similar to other doctors’ visits, you will be asked a series of questions to help us determine the source of your dermatitis. Here are some key pieces of information that you may be asked at your initial consultation:

- Date of onset of rash
- Body site most affected by rash
- Description of rash including symptoms (burning, itching, pain)
- Current skin medications
- Previous skin treatment
- Previous skin diseases
- Other health related issues
- Current non-skin medications
- Previous diagnoses of asthma, hay fever, or eczema
- Previous reactions to products applied to the skin
- Other allergies
- Family history of asthma, hay fever, or eczema
- Handwashing—Frequency and type of soap
- Bathing—Frequency and type of soap
- Face or body lotion application
- Facial makeup application (foundation, eye products, lip products, etc.)
- Cologne or perfume use
- Sunscreen use
- Hair products (shampoo, conditioner, mousse, hairspray, etc.)
- Hair dye or bleaching—frequency and type
- Nail cosmetics
- Hobbies
- Current Occupation
- Chemicals exposed to at workplace
- Gloves used for work
- Relation of dermatitis to the workplace setting (i.e. when away from work, skin improves; when returning to work, skin worsens)

This clinic is around the corner from St. Paul’s Hospital at 518-1033 Davie Street. Remember to allow time (approximately 30 minutes) before your appointment to get from your car or transit to the clinic area.
