Summary

Reporting to the Operations Leader, the position maintains supplies, equipment and supply storage areas for a Department. Places purchase orders for supplies and equipment, completes and enters orders into system and arranges for appropriate approvals. Contacts designated sources of supply to obtain specific information such as prices and estimated delivery dates and forwards information obtained to supervisor or stores. Sets up new supply bins as required and determines supply quotas. Reports supply and/or equipment issues to the Stores Department and/or Leader, Clinical Supplies and Equipment, as appropriate. Stocks and replenishes for various bedside carts and develops new carts as requested with the input and approval from department physicians. Ensures that equipment is available and in working condition by performing duties such as arranging for the repair and maintenance of equipment. Attends departmental and interdepartmental meetings to provide input and information. Prepares reports as requested by the Operations Leader. Under direction of nursing staff, transports patients as required.

Education

Grade 12 and two (2) years’ recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Duties


Orders and maintains supplies and equipment for the Department by performing duties such as observing equipment and supplies on hand and identifying supplies that require re-ordering, completing and placing purchase orders and obtaining approval from Operations Leader for orders that exceed pre-determined spending amount. Maintains perpetual inventory records and records information.

Maintains supply storage areas by performing duties such as creating new supply bins as required and notifying Stores of supply quotas and re-order points, creating and updating departmental supply catalogues, monitoring expiry dates on supplies and reporting supply and/or equipment issues such as damaged goods to the Stores Department and/or Leader, Clinical Supplies and Equipment, as appropriate.

Completes and fills ward supply requests and stocks and replenishes supplies for various bedside carts as per established checklists and creates new carts as requested, with the input and approval of department physicians.

Runs errands as assigned such as picking up and dropping off specimens, supplies and/or medications and miscellaneous items as requested/ approved by the pertinent medical personnel.

To ensure that equipment is available and in working condition performs duties such as locating missing equipment, picks up and delivers equipment, visually inspects equipment such as patient restraints for damage or wear, and arranges for the maintenance and repair of equipment as required with Physical Plant or appropriate department.

Tracks departmental statistics and data such as supply and equipment usage and take-home equipment and supply sales. Prepares reports on supply usage and costing for budgetary and planning purposes as requested by the Operations Leader.

Transports patients as required to other units, diagnostic areas, or morgue under the direction of nursing staff. Assists with transfer of patients as directed and under the guidance of a care aide or nurse using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs or stretchers.

Attends a variety of departmental and interdepartmental meetings to provide input, information, and updates on items and issues related to supplies and equipment in the department.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
